Tina founded Teach For Madagascar (TFM) in 2014, a volunteer-run organization that mobilizes university students to design and implement educational projects in public schools and for out-of-school children. In rural areas of Madagascar, 80% of teachers are elected by the community based on their basic literacy skills. However, most of these community teachers lack proper training in teaching, which results in low literacy levels among students. To tackle this issue, TFM has developed several initiatives, including producing storybooks and learning resources, running campaigns to promote reading, and launching TALY Corps — a program that trains graduate students to work with community teachers in remote villages for three months, with the goal of improving students’ learning outcomes. Despite being a founder, Tina might not come across as one. She has a burning heart to fight injustice and a deep conviction to inspire others to discover the fire in their hearts. She believes that social initiative can then stem from this inspiration.
