In 2010, Courtney traveled to India with a group of fellow alumni from the Fashion Institute of Technology. It was supposed to be a 30-day trip to research textiles – and when she saw the children on the street in need, it became a lifelong mission. Courtney never came home from that trip, and instead moved to India where she began volunteering. She was particularly moved by a boy named Sundar, who had special needs. After he tragically passed away, Courtney started her own organization to help the most vulnerable children in Delhi.
One Life to Love helps the community in many ways. They work with children with special needs and teaches their families and communities how to properly care for them, providing support and resources. They’ve repatriated over 400 children with special needs to their families. For those who have no families, One Life to Love is their home. They also provide a day school for the children of migrant workers, who would otherwise be left alone all day, many very young with an even younger sibling on their hip. With Courtney and One Life to Love, these children have the opportunity to learn and even potentially get into government schools. They also runs a Girls’ Education Program to ensure girls stay in school when they’re most susceptible to dropping out after 8th grade. With the support and encouragement of One Life to Life, hundreds of girls have completed high school and gone on to college.
